June 1957 Introduction
Notices for 1957 dues and arrears were sent out first week in January. The response has been good. Have you sent yours in yet? Many have misunderstood the arrears. If there was – in blank line for amount of arrears, you are not in arrears. Blanks opposite 1956 and 55 dues with nothing in means no back dues. If you are in arrears, amount will show and an x opposite 1956 or 55.
We have taken many names from our books for unpaid dues which has brought our total membership down to 987. Our highest was 1338. But we are still the largest county historical society in the Commonwealth. But we want to climb back up. Will you get your new member? Use the blanks on the back of The Settler.
Your Director is now working with a committee of Pennsylvania History teachers from our county schools in preparing material for uniform teaching of county history along with Pennsylvania history.
One hundred years ago on April 19th and 20th, snow fell in the county to a depth of twelve to twenty-four inches. One hundred years ago the first Republican candidate for Governor, David Wilmot, was defeated by Democrat William F. Packer, of Willamsport.
