January 1960 Editor’s Notes
This SETTLER is the first that you have received since January when it was our sad duty to report the death of our beloved Leo E. Wilt who served us so long and faithfully.
To many of you who are in distant places, it is a pleaser to let you know that you society is prospering, at least in the interest of its members who take advantage of the museum with its exhibits and library.
Early in the year we had three nights of open house in one week. County chapters of the DAR served refreshments and our informed members were on hand to describe the displays. Nearly 500 attended.
Later we had a symposium on American Indians who inhabited this section. A panel of qualified archeologists ably discussed this subject with us.
The enlightening and enjoyable meetings at Wyalusing and Troy are reported in this issue by those who were in charge.
Your society continues to perform the important function of informing the youth of Bradford County and in this has entertained many classes from grade and high schools. Cub Scouts, Brownies and Boy Scouts have been served. During some months the number of children admitted has exceeded 200.
Much genealogical and other information has been obtained for members.
The society must continue to function for all of you, and to aid in the development of an intelligent youth. This can be accomplished only with your continued support.
Your officers and trustees wish you a Happy New Year.
Note: THE SETTLER is a quarterly publication of Bradford County History.
