April 1956 Introduction
We are glad to welcome the new “Chemung Historical Journal”, the quarterly of our sister society across the New York line at Elmira. It is a 6 by 9 publication, handsomely printed on coated paper and well filled with interesting articles.
Those who are not subscribers to American Heritage are missing a real treat. Now issued in hard board covers six times a year, it is one of the finest publications in the United States. The color illustrations are amazing and outstanding and the articles are all written by well know historians. Bruce Catton, the Pulitzer Prize winner, is editor. They are for sale at most book stores.
Our other sister historical society, that of Sullivan County, seems to be growing fast. Their museum at Laporte has grown so that they have added additional space. Their meetings are well attended.
Most of the annual notices for dues have gone out, and the response has been good. If you have not yet sent in your dues for 1956, please do so, for your treasury needs replenishing. Membership is still well over 1,200 and we still stand second in the state. Have you secured your new member yet? Use the blanks on the back page.
Note: THE SETTLER is a quarterly publication of Bradford County History.
